Hi everyone,
Just a small post to say that V5.0 is still going to happen, after trying out some new roms on my HTC HD2 which featured the awesome Aroma Installer I decided to build it into my next release. Some Aroma features seem to not work but that's the down to the Novo's underlying installer but enough of it works to let us have some fun π
This will give you the ability to pick certain options when installing the rom, these should include:
- Choice of Dolphin or Firefox Nightly (or both) Internet Browsers, I have been using Firefox heavily and it's a great browser. Dolphin will include some extra plugin choices but Firefox may not be able to have that due to the way it handles plugins.
- Boot animation choices, there have been a couple of different animations throughout my releases this will give you a few choices to pick from.
- Boot logo choices, this is the first screen you see when the Novo powers on. There will be a couple of choices for this.
- Launcher choices, this will be between the current ADW and GoLauncherHD. GoHD has some nice features and is great for tablets but it's lacking some of the nicer features the regular GoLauncher has but I quite like it. It will work on any of the current releases so you can go and try and see what you think.
- Additional Keyboards, there are some nice ones out there now and I can give the option of Baidu for those that want to use it.
- Other choices for apps that may not be used by everyone, Google Play, Books, Earth, Skype for example.
If you have a suggestion for an app you would like to see or have a choice of changing use the comments below to let me know. This is going to require a lot of testing and I have other things I want to try and achieve as well so there will be a wait but it will be worth it.

We'll wait ..patiently.. for the new rom .
ReplyDeleteIts good ...
Keep it up !
I remember when I first visited your website and saw the first versions of the ROM with the fixes. I thought to myself "Yes! Now I don't have to give this crappy tablet away". But after 2 years, the tablet started getting older and that big status bar starting to get on my nerves.
ReplyDeleteBasicly, the only thing keeping me from throwing the tablet in the bin is your great effort on building these ROMs!
I would encourage everyone benefitting from this like I do, to donate. Not for beers though! We don't want our loved developer to get fat and lazy :P
Thanks for the replies :)
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to do something about the Status Bar but my attempts to edit the SystemUI.apk have not been successful as it refuses to recompile or run if it it does. I shall keep on it for a while longer as I'm trying to see if I can force the bar to a smaller size.
I downloaded 4.0 se and it won't let me install. it keeps giving me this message "failed to open sdcard update.zip" (no such file or directory) what am I doing wrong? It also says signature verification failed . Can you help me out?
ReplyDeleteNormally signature issues arise if you have been trying one of the ICS based roms. The failed to open update.zip is a new one not had that reported before but I guess it's the same reason for the signature issue.
DeleteIf you have been using the ICS roms you need to perform a full wipe back to stock, check out ToΓ±o Cofrades comment in the 'Version 5.0 in progress' post. What firmware is currently on the tablet?
It is the stock firmware. I download it onto the micro sd and then do the 3 wipes and try to install but it gives me the same error every time. I have even re-downloaded the firmware a couple times and get the same message. Just to ensure I'm on the right path, the entire file needs to be in a zip file in order to do the update or just the update.zip file? Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.
DeleteI got it to work! I was initially putting the whole zip file inside the SD card... What I did was open the zip file and insert the files Ulmage, Ulmage recovery and the update.zip (leave it zipped) and it worked. Thank you again for your response and this awesome update!
Deletei tried all your roms, you are a genius. Without you, novo 8 is nothing.
ReplyDeleteI'm, waiting for your new rom.
thanks
Thanks for the comment, I hope you'll like v5.0 :)
DeleteAndy, I hate to bother you again. your ROM has been working great. However today I went to turn on my novo 8 advanced and its stuck on the screen for the cortex a9 processor. It will not boot past that. I have tried hitting the reset button and restarting but it still gets stuck in the same spot. If I hard reset the device would I need to reinstall your ROM? or do you have any suggestions before I hard reset? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
ReplyDeleteJust to be a little more clear, I shut it off the night before . I did not update anything or install anything new . My wife set her laptop on top of the tablet that night and when i turned it on in the morning it wouldn't boot past the cortex a9 screen. I'm not sure if when the laptop was on top it turned it on and caused this or if it just happened.
ReplyDeleteAll sounds a bit odd, I have had the non boot thing happen from time to time when testing the firmwares but not had it crop up in daily use, try booting into recovery mode then just select the reboot option and see if that does the trick.
DeleteI tried that an it didn't work. I wiped cache and rebooted and that didn't work. I got impatient and did a factory reset and it's still not working. I'm almost out of options. Could I reinstall the rom since I did a factory reset or would I have to go back to the original firmware that was on te device when it came out of the box. Then reinstall your ROM? Not really sure what to do here. Thank you for your prompt response.
ReplyDeleteI would try a full reinstall (with the 3 wipes) and see if that cures it, if not then try the full Ainol factory reset flash mentioned in my previous reply. As I said I have had it when testing builds but once reflashed everything was fine. Most of the apps store their data on the SD card so you should find that once reinstalled you will not be missing to much.
DeleteAndy, I can't thank you enough. It is back to working like old times!
